& I

Experimental Video / Installation

In a room alone, each individual was asked to sit in front of a camera for 3 minutes, during which they could see themselves on a screen in front of them. '& I' was inspired by photographer Owen Kydd's "durational photographs" that captured nothing extraordinary, such as branches on a tree moving in the wind. These "durational photographs" made explicit, the meditative nature of things through the passage of time, through use of the time-based medium. '& I' attempts to borrow the same meditative affect and allow people as subjects to fill the passage of time, by spending 3 minutes in total self-reflection.

All 12 videos were displayed on iPads in a silent room, where viewers could walk around and be faced with each individual's self-reflection. Each iPad played 3 participants on loop.
